About Us

Driven by the adage that “All Jews are Responsible, One for the Other,” the Jewish Federation of Springfield, Illinois serves as the secular volunteer umbrella organization for the Jewish community in central Illinois. It is a community without borders. Part of the national Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) and funded by contributions to the Federation Annual Campaign, the Jewish Federation of Springfield, Illinois helps meet the needs of Jews, to ensure Jewish continuity from central Illinois, to Israel and throughout the world.

The History. The Jewish Federation of Springfield, Illinois was founded on May 6, 1941, to aid in the resettlement of Jews fleeing the war in Europe. Mailing List Policy. The Jewish Federation of Springfield does not publish our mailing list. It is the policy, and always has been the policy of the Federation to refuse requests for copies of the mailing list. When local Jewish organizations request the list to share information for an event, either the Federation creates and mails the information or the organization will receive names and addresses only for that specific purpose. These local organizations include Temple B’rith Sholom, Temple Israel and their respective sisterhoods, as well as the local chapters of Hadassah and B’nai B’rith. Those organizations reciprocate by publicizing our events. Members of the Board of Directors and committee chairs have access to the mailing list to be used only for Federation business.
